Nature Of Greed

Out of the sterile silence,
Out of the cramped up violence,
I come to hear nature rustle.
Where not all of life is paved,
A place that’s skipped in the hustle,
A space that we keep saved.

A maid walks through the wealth
While her boss walks for his health.
And while it might not seem fair
For her to slave for a jerk
Who doesn’t notice or seem to care,
At least the maid has work.

We’re stuck in our cars
Traffic’s trapped, push and pull.
The sunset is clear,
And the moon will be full.
Too many people don’t look
As the world turns away from the sun…

Without perpetual pavement
I sit completely complacent
My spirit starts to feel renewed
Without the inner city noise.
Am I here to enjoy the view
Or maintain society’s poise?

The highway’s stuck in gridlock
Underneath the children walk
Through an unmarked school zone
Where streets can be so cruel.
They’re part of the violence in which they’ve grown
But at least they go to school.

The beauty is here,
If we see it or not.
The children will learn
Whatever they’re taught
Too many people don’t look
As the world turns away from the sun…

Nature is enclosed as cities wrap around,
The world is just a place to visit
Most of us don’t even miss it.

If we want the best for our families
Someone else won’t get what they need
Is this the nature of greed?

We hoard for our dens
With animal resolve
Are we being natural
Or just fail to evolve
Too many people don’t look
As the world turns away from the sun…
